Small Groups
While there are many informal gatherings of CAN members who have become friends, some of our activities are more organized.
Small groups enable members to gather with other members to enjoy shared interests and activities. All members are welcome to suggest new groups to the Small Group Coordinator or to join the existing groups. For more information about any of Creative Aging in Nyack small groups, or if you have an idea for a new one, please contact Sally Minniefield, our Small Group Coordinator.

Below are a few of our Small Groups that might interest you (This page gets updated from time to time, so check with Sally Minniefield to see if there are new ones):
Aging Process Group
This group gathers to share their thoughts about their concerns and joys during the aging process. Contact Sally Borgman.
Black Studies Group
This is a discussion group so that members may look more deeply into understanding the significance of black history. Contact Susanna Willingham.
Book Group
The Book Group meets on the first Thursday of each month to discuss the book that the group has chosen. Contact Honey Jacobs or Mary Mathews.
Lunch Group
On the fourth Thursday of the month meet with other CAN members at a local restaurant to socialize over lunch. A different resturant is chosen every month. Contact Marie or Larry Thorpe.
Play Reading Group
This group gets together on the second Thursday of the month to read one-act plays. Contact Leontine Temsky if you would like to join.
Poetry Reading Group
This group gathers once a month on Friday mornings to enjoy poetry. Contact Judy Ryan.
Potlucks
One member offers his or her home for a Potluck meal and provides, at minimum, table settings and seating. The host decides how many guests they can accommodate. Members sign up to attend and to bring a dish. Jane Berkowicz is the contact person.
Shared Entertainment Group (SEG)
This group shares activities and friendship with fellow CAN members. Examples of activities include dancing, concerts, movies, theater, field trips and more. One of the ways we get to know each other better is through monthly, in-person "Meet & Greet" gatherings. Contact Jan Cohen or Jane Berkowicz if you would like to join this active group.
Walking Group
Except in winter, our Striders meet on Tuesday mornings for a brisk walk of 2 or 3 miles. Contact Dorothy Whitton if you would like to join.
