Volunteers
Creative Aging in Nyack is an all-volunteer organization for people in our community who want to age-in-place and stay active and engaged. Members may enjoy the benefits of giving and/or receiving help. Our members volunteer to provide support for others in medical as well as non-medical situations. In addition, they may serve on the Board, become Certified Drivers, serve on the Program, Membership, or Care Teams, and help in many other ways. Members who start a Small Group or host a Potluck meal are also valuable CAN volunteers.
CAN Volunteers Help in Medical Situations:
The CAN Care Team assist members with health related situations following an injury, while recuperating from a hospital stay or are in need to support in other medically related situations. CAN Care Coordinators assign Care Specialists to assess members' needs and arrange for volunteers to meet those needs that are within the scope of CAN’s limitations. At times, Care Specialists will coordinate with Certified Drivers and CAN Do Volunteers to arrange getting the member to and from medical appointments, grocery shopping, and other needs. The Care Team can also make arrangements with the CAN Do Cooks to provide meals for those homebound by illness. Certified Drivers: Our team of volunteer Certified Drivers are used for getting to and from medical appointments. To become a driver, one needs to be a CAN member. If you are, send a photocopy of your driver's license, and your drivers' insurance card to [email protected] to allow Creative Aging to do a routine DMV check of your driving record. |
