CAN Care Specialists
The Care Specialist serves as liaison between the member needing care and those volunteering to help. The Care Specialist continues to work with the member until care is no longer needed or until the end of a three-month period, or after the extended time.
Once the injured/ill member has contacted a Care Coordinator (either Marie Thorpe or Dorothy Whitton), that Coordinator will then contact a Care Specialist. The Care Specialist will contact the injured/ill CAN member, and discuss what services are needed. If the member needs more than we can provide as CAN volunteers, the member will be referred to professional care.
Volunteers are not to do any tasks that would be done by a certified or licensed home health care professional, physical therapist, registered nurse, or by a professional contractor.
